2nd half of the Hong Kong Trail - 25 km of pure hiking

already a week ago, 5 of us decided to go for a day of hiking on the hong kong island to do half of the trail that cross the island from west (the peak) to the east (big wave bay). We started in the middle and to the eastern coast.

left the student residence and took the ferry from Hung Hom to Central and then a bus to the middle of the trail. Here's the crew of the day, 3 canadians and 2 germans: Marcus, Yen, Miles, Jose (and me).

on the ferry, i really like the benches that have the simplest mechanism to switch the side of the back of a whole row.

the start (and it was just the beginning of a lot of stairs)

2 proud canadians

distance markers, one every 1/2 km. we were arriving at destination at 100.

first peak marker

view of the tai tam reservoir where we are heading.

second peak

walking backwards in china (and for other countries) is a very common and good thing for the health, so we decided to just give it a try.

tai tam reservoir

we didn't understand where these people were from since there was no villages near but i could understand why they were all there with the sound of the waterfall just beside them.

some kind of french canadian on the side of the tai tam reservoir (nice pic Yen)

3 color trees

we then found a waterfall and stop for lunch right beside it.

fruit found on a tree. even if the guys tasted it, still unidentified.

empty beach because of low season. we'll have to come back there when it is more busy.

this portion of the trail is the known as one of the best in eastern china. the name is really representative since you are really ridding the back of sequence of small peaks while admiring on both sides the land falling into the water.

shek o village in the fog. (going there for a bbq on sunday)

golf of shek o village. i'll have to see if i can play there.

view of the dragon's back

finally. we had left at 11am and arrived at the big wave bay village at 7pm. it was time that we got there since we couldn't see much in the woods. little disappointment seeing the streets were empty and very quiet. so we went at the bus stop directly to go back in town.

the first bus that got there was a mini bus. these are looking like a bigger version of the volks westfalia and can have about 20 people on board. you only pay cash and need to tell the driver where you want to stop but they follow a specific route.

after 15 min in the bus, we arrived at Shau Kei Wan station and took the mtr all the way to the student hall. we went to eat spicy noodles at a small restaurant that just concluded this day in a great way.
next update on the goldfish market and more.
